Why Test Employees for Nicotine Use?
The Centers for Disease Control reports that cigarette smoking is the leading cause of preventable disease and death in the United States, accounting for more than 480,000 deaths every year, or about 1 in 5 deaths. In addition to cigarettes, other forms of tobacco/nicotine such as chewing tobacco, pipes and especially vaping have increased this number even more. Employers are concerned about their employees and have implemented several strategies to help improve the health of their employees and to help them be more productive. This has included creating tobacco-free workplaces and providing rewards to those who are tobacco-free.
Two Simple Ways to Test For Nicotine Use: Saliva or Fingerprick
AdvantageHealth administers nicotine (cotinine) testing to worksites throughout the United States. We have two, simple ways to test your employees – either via a saliva swab or a fingerpick blood sample. In addition, we manage the authorization forms which allow us to report back tobacco use status to the employer for premium discounts or other rewards for employees being tobacco-free.
